Usually a post about making resolutions and changes to your life is something you'd see in January. Bringing in a new year always seems an appropriate time to not only reflect on the things that have passed but look forward to that fresh start. Today's date, however, is Thursday 30th March 2017.
"It's never too late to be what you might have been." - George Eliot
Even if it's partway through the year/week/day it doesn't mean it's too late to start bringing about a change you wish to see. If you want something to change, start it now. Bringing about change also doesn't mean having to make dramatic and monumental alterations; this post focuses on the little changes in life that are just as important. I for one have decided to create this space for myself to record my thoughts/plans/appreciations of the things I love most. So I thought I'd share a list of the little things I have personally found and believe are essential to start doing from now and always...
- Be kind to yourself
Treating yourself is not a crime and should certainly not be put to the back of the to do list. Instead, I think it's important that we treat ourselves from time to time; have a lazy day and don't feel guilty about it, make time for a pamper evening with indulgent products, be mindful of the thoughts you think about yourself, buy a little from me to me gift. We are all important enough to deserve lovely things and feel good.
- Spend more time with the people that matter
Life's way to short to hang around with people who don't bring out the best in you. And even if those people are far away make sure you're able to find time in your day to keep in touch with them; if you're lucky enough to have special people in your life, keep them!
- Say YES
Make the effort to go the extra mile, get up and make the outing, accept the challenge of a new experience. It's so much easier to say no to things, especially when saying yes can lead to something daunting, but only through saying yes can life become so much more exciting. Saying no produces one certain outcome, but saying yes can produce many different and potentially amazing ones. I know for a fact that saying yes to challenges has changed my year for the better.
- Healthier Days
I've made an effort recently to try and alter my lifestyle. I've never been one to care about what I eat so for me this change is more about feeling great on the inside. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to be eating chocolate from time to time... but just going to the gym just a couple times a week and cutting out unhealthy foods during weekdays is an aim I've tried to stick by and it's made me feel so motivated and energised.
- Worry less and be GRATEFUL
If you can't change it, don't waste time worrying. And if you can change it, go about things in a positive way - I've learnt moping and negativity only ever brings unhappiness, so waking up each day reminding yourself that you feel grateful for the things you have and being happy about it is something that's changed my life for the better; and it really is the simplest thing.
- Get INSPIRED
Getting inspired and completely immersed in a project is one of the best feelings in the world. If you want someone to show you just how much you can do in a day watch one of the most motivational humans I've ever come across here.
- Document the good times
Photos, diaries, (blogging!) - it's a fab and simple way to make sure you never forget all the wonderful memories you've made. In 2013 I made a short video edit on iMovie of everything I'd filmed on my phone over the year and I loved watching it back. So this year I'm doing the same with an app called One Second Everyday. Doing this actually makes you want to do things worth recording too, so it's a win win.
- Practice Meditation & Mindfulness
Meditation is always something that has intrigued me. Setting just ten/fifteen minutes of a busy day aside for peace and quiet sounds like such a stress relieving practice. Since getting into it recently I've found it so calming and grounding that I've recently been practising it every night before I go to sleep and it's made me feel so positive. Making it a daily/weekly routine is 100% something I would recommend to anyone and I'm definitely wanting to do another post on this topic soon.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and be sure to keep an eye out for my next post soon.
